Housing ministry focuses on upkeep of new Houston headquarters

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 11, 2026

With all services now fully operational, attention has turned to preserving the new Houston headquarters of the Ministry of Housing and Water and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA).

The Minister of Housing and Water and the chief executive officer of the CH&PA met the contractor and the maintenance team. The meeting formed part of the official handover of the building's technical and operational assets.

During the engagement, the minister stressed that proper operation and routine maintenance of the building's systems will help to safeguard the government's investment. He said it will also ensure that employees work in a safe, comfortable and efficient environment, and that members of the public can access services in a modern and welcoming setting.

"We have invested in a state-of-the-art facility," the minister said. He added that it is critical for the systems to be properly maintained so the quality of the building is preserved, disruptions are kept to a minimum and a high standard of operation is sustained.

The session gave management detailed insight into the building's key systems, what each one does and what maintenance each requires. That knowledge is expected to help the ministry and the CH&PA keep the facility running smoothly in the years ahead.

The contractor reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out routine maintenance. It also pledged to address any issues arising from the construction during the defects liability period, the time during which a contractor remains responsible for correcting faults in completed works.

The new Houston headquarters now houses all services of the Ministry of Housing and Water and the Central Housing and Planning Authority, bringing both under one roof for staff and for members of the public seeking assistance.
