The Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Ministerial Task Force on Trafficking in Persons, launched a two-day training seminar for police recruits at the Guyana Police Force Training Academy on Thursday 16 July 2026.
The initiative is being run in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Guyana Police Force’s Trafficking in Persons Unit, under the theme “Introduction and Understanding Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling: Detection and Response.”
The seminar, running from 16 to 17 July, is designed to equip new recruits with the knowledge and practical skills needed to identify, prevent, investigate and respond effectively to cases of trafficking in persons. Participants are engaged in presentations, facilitated discussions, practical exercises and role-playing scenarios intended to strengthen their understanding of investigative procedures, victim-centred approaches to protection, and the responsibilities of the various agencies involved in Guyana’s anti-trafficking effort.
Officials say the training forms part of the government’s ongoing commitment to building the capacity of frontline law enforcement officers, improving protection for victims, and reinforcing a coordinated national response to prevent, detect, investigate and combat human trafficking.
