LRTVS Newswatch is a locally owned newsroom based in New Amsterdam, Berbice. We are the news arm of LRTVS Channel 10, Little Rock Television Station, part of the Little Rock Guyana family of businesses.
Berbice generates far more news than it gets credit for, and a great deal of it never travels past the Berbice River. Council decisions that change what a family pays, court matters that settle a dispute a village has argued over for years, a school that quietly starts outperforming the national average, a cricket side that produces the next national player. Our job is to put that on the record, in the place it happened, for the people it happened to.
What we cover
Our reporting is organised around the areas that matter most to our readers.
News covers the day’s developments across New Amsterdam, Corentyne, Canje, the Berbice River communities and the wider country. Politics follows the National Assembly, the regional democratic councils and the decisions taken in our name. Crime and Courts reports the magistracy, the High Court and policing. Business looks at enterprise, agriculture, oil and gas and the cost of living as it is actually felt at the shop counter.
Sport covers cricket first and hardest, along with football, athletics and the community sport that produces the players nobody has heard of yet. Education follows schools, CXC, the University of Guyana and technical training. Health covers hospitals, clinics and public health. Community is where the villages, the churches and mandirs and masjids, the culture and the ordinary extraordinary people of Berbice live. Diaspora is for Guyanese abroad who still read the news from home. Opinion carries commentary and letters, clearly separated from our news reporting.
How we work
We publish a full account of how we report, source, verify and correct our journalism in our Editorial Standards and Corrections policy. The short version is that we would rather be second and right than first and wrong, we name our sources whenever we responsibly can, we go to the subject of a serious allegation before we publish it, and when we get something wrong we say so at the foot of the article rather than editing it away.
Our television roots
LRTVS Channel 10 has been broadcasting to Berbice households for years, and this website extends that work rather than replacing it. Television gives us the pictures and the immediacy; the website gives us the space to explain, the archive that keeps a story available long after the broadcast, and a way to reach Guyanese who now live thousands of miles from Berbice but still want to know what happened at home this week.

Our journalism is free to read and is paid for by advertising, including advertising served automatically by third-party networks, and by our wider broadcast operations.
