Police have launched an investigation following the arrest of a 28-year-old vendor after approximately four pounds of suspected marijuana was reportedly discovered during an operation along the Ruimveldt Public Road, in the vicinity of a well-known supermarket.
According to police, the operation was carried out on Tuesday after law enforcement officers acted on intelligence received about suspected narcotics activity in the area. During the exercise, ranks made contact with the vendor, a resident of Riverview, Ruimveldt, and conducted a search.
Police said the search led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing a quantity of suspected marijuana. The man was immediately arrested and escorted to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters.
At CID headquarters the suspected narcotic was weighed in the presence of the suspect and amounted to approximately four pounds. The vendor was subsequently processed and remained in police custody.
Investigators have since launched a formal probe into the matter. The suspected narcotic is expected to undergo the necessary procedures while officers continue gathering evidence, and police have indicated that investigations remain ongoing. The report was filed for LRTVS Newswatch by Dylan Adams.
