NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 21, 2026
Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud launched a new youth initiative called the Catalyst Collective on Saturday, September 19, at the Guyana-China Friendship Park.
The initiative is designed to get young people thinking through solutions to problems facing their communities, while also building civic consciousness, discipline and responsibility among participants.
Minister Persaud spent the afternoon with young people drawn from Regions Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten for a youth think tank session focused on issues that matter most to them.
Participants shared their personal experiences and spoke openly about the challenges facing young people today. They then worked together to propose solutions to those challenges through a series of activities and exercises.
The session also included fun challenges that tested the participants' teamwork, sportsmanship and quick thinking.
Organisers described the gathering as a day of ideas, connection and young people having their say on matters affecting their generation.
The Catalyst Collective is expected to continue engaging youth from across the regions as part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to involve young people directly in shaping solutions to community and youth issues.
