GPF and NYPD-linked association bring gifts to children in memory of Detective Randolph Holder

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 26, 2026

The Guyana Police Force's Community Relations Department joined the New York City Police Department and the Guyanese American Law Enforcement Association (GALEA) on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for a community outreach that brought goodies and clothing to children in Georgetown and on the West Bank Demerara.

One of the stops was Leopold Street, Georgetown. The team also visited communities on the West Bank Demerara, where children received the items. The outreach forms part of the organisation's continued commitment to giving back.

The head of the Community Relations Department, Superintendent Leslie Smith, was present along with ranks from the department and an assistant superintendent. The visiting group included the association's president, who is an inspector with the NYPD, Deputy Inspector Michael Goodchild and other members of the association.

The outreach is more than a yearly giveaway. It is a tradition held in memory of Detective Randolph "Randy" Holder, who was killed in the line of duty on October 20, 2015.

Through this continued act of service, the NYPD and the association have pledged to keep Detective Holder's memory and legacy alive by supporting communities and bringing joy to children.

The Guyana Police Force said it values the partnership, which strengthens ties between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The Force also said the effort honours a fallen officer through service to others.

The event shows how the police and their overseas partners continue to work together on community-based activities, with children as the main beneficiaries on the day.
