St Mary’s Nursery School came alive with colour, culture and excitement as students celebrated Guyana’s 60th independence anniversary.
As part of the activity, children were encouraged to dress in career outfits representing the jobs they hope to hold in the future. Pupils proudly attended school dressed as doctors, nurses, teachers, police officers, firefighters and many other professionals.
A teacher at the school, Ms Sankar, explained that the activity was designed to inspire learners to think about their future goals while also celebrating the country’s independence. She said the aim was to encourage the children to think big and to understand that staying in school opens the door to far more opportunity.
Parents and guardians who attended said they were happy to see the children expressing themselves with confidence and creativity. One parent, whose daughter came dressed as an air hostess, described the initiative as a good way of educating children about the different careers open to them.
Another parent said the programme was informative for early childhood learners, giving them an early sense of what careers exist and what they might want to become when they grow up.
The event also included games, music and moments of celebration as students represented both Guyana and their dream professions.
Teachers, parents and guardians said the celebration was both enjoyable and meaningful, helping the children build confidence while learning more about their country and their own futures.
