The spirit of patriotism filled the air in Fort Wellington as Guyanese came together to commemorate the country’s 60th independence anniversary during a flag-raising ceremony held at the Regional Democratic Council compound.
Leading the ceremony was Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud, alongside regional officials, members of the joint services and residents of the community.
The highlight of the event was the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead, raised and saluted by the joint services in a symbolic tribute to the nation’s freedom, strength and unity.
The ceremony paid homage to the men and women whose sacrifices and determination paved the way for a free and independent Guyana.
As the country marks six decades of nationhood, the occasion served as a reminder of Guyana’s progress and resilience, and of the collective responsibility of citizens to continue building a stronger future for generations to come.
