Teachers Receive Foster Care Awareness Training

Foster care awareness training for teachers

The Child Care and Protection Agency of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security recently held a foster care awareness session for teachers from several schools across Georgetown.

Teachers from East Street Nursery, Ketley Primary, North Georgetown Primary, West Ruimveldt Primary, Brickdam Secondary, East Ruimveldt Secondary, Carmel Secondary and Charlestown Secondary, among others, attended the session.

The activity focused on helping teachers better understand the foster care programme and how they can identify and support children who may need a safe and caring environment.

Officials explained that teachers occupy an important place in children’s lives and are often the first adults in a position to guide a vulnerable child toward the support that exists.

The session also encouraged greater community involvement and awareness about foster care in Guyana.

The Ministry says efforts like these will continue as it works to create safer communities and brighter futures for children across the country.
