Police ranks, under the supervision of a gazetted officer, carried out a targeted cannabis eradication operation at Kimbia, Upper Berbice River, between 4 a.m. and 7:55 p.m. on Thursday 7 May 2026.
During the day-long exercise, officers discovered two cultivated fields spanning approximately eight acres. Investigators estimate that nearly 300,000 cannabis plants were growing on the site.
The plants ranged in height from four to six feet, indicating varying stages of cultivation.
In addition to the fields, officers uncovered two makeshift camps believed to have been used by those tending the crops. Two drying areas were also found, where approximately 400 pounds of dried cannabis were recovered.
All of the cannabis plants, along with the dried narcotics, the camps and the drying facilities, were destroyed by fire at the scene.
Authorities have placed the estimated street value of the narcotics at $264,933,120.
No arrests were made during the operation, and police reported that the exercise was conducted without incident. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
