A police constable is in custody after allegedly admitting to the killing of a missing Cuban national whose decomposed body was recently discovered on the East Coast of Demerara.
According to information released by investigators, the constable and the woman were reportedly involved in a relationship. Detectives believe she was lured to a meeting before the incident unfolded, in what is being treated as a premeditated act.
Investigations revealed that on 18 June 2026 the constable allegedly contacted the woman and arranged to meet her. He reportedly picked her up in his motor vehicle and the pair later travelled to the Enmore Backdam area, where an argument is said to have erupted. The constable allegedly told investigators that the confrontation became physical, and reportedly admitted that he was carrying an unlicensed firearm and used a soft object as a makeshift silencer before firing the shot that fatally wounded her.
Following the shooting, he allegedly confessed to tying the body with a rope and dragging it into nearby bushes in an effort to conceal the crime. Investigators were told that the rope had been purchased on the same day from a supermarket. Police sources indicated that after leaving the scene the constable returned to his residence, where he allegedly cleaned the interior of his vehicle using hand sanitiser in an apparent attempt to remove evidence.
The suspect also reportedly disclosed that he disposed of the woman’s cellular phone and the spent shell by throwing them from a bridge at Unity on the East Coast of Demerara, discarded the makeshift silencer along the roadway leading from the backdam, and later threw the firearm into nearby bushes. Law enforcement officers have since launched searches in an effort to recover the firearm and other items believed to be connected to the crime.
The woman had been reported missing after she was last seen during the early morning hours of 18 June 2026, reportedly on her way to work. Persistent efforts by detectives attached to the Criminal Investigation Department eventually led investigators to the location where the remains were found, at approximately 7:50 p.m. in a clump of bushes along the East Coast of Demerara, bringing a tragic end to the search and intensifying the investigation.
That discovery ultimately led detectives to the constable, whose alleged confession has become a major breakthrough in the case. Police say investigations remain ongoing as they continue to gather evidence and prepare the matter for legal proceedings. The report was filed for LRTVS Newswatch by Delon Adams.
