NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 16, 2026
Twenty-three women have successfully completed levels two and three of the garment construction course offered through the Women's Innovation and Investment Network (WIN) programme.
The training was held at the Guyana Women's Leadership Institute at Cove and John. It was offered through the vision of the Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud.
The WIN programme continues to equip women with practical, income-generating skills. The garment construction course is one of the ways it does so, and the graduates have now finished both the second and third levels of the training.
An official involved with the programme said the course is about much more than learning to sew. According to the official, it is about creating opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship and building brighter futures for the women who take part.
The official explained that the aim is to help women become more self-reliant. With skills of this kind, the women are better able to provide for themselves and their families.
Completing levels two and three means the 23 graduates have moved beyond the basics of the craft. The programme presents this kind of hands-on training as a practical step towards earning an income.
The Guyana Women's Leadership Institute at Cove and John served as the venue for the course. WIN, which stands for Women's Innovation and Investment Network, continues to offer training of this type to women as part of its work.
The graduates were recognised for completing the course, which the programme says is meant to open doors to entrepreneurship and greater independence for women and their households.
