The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has begun infrastructural works on a $9.1 billion housing project in Region Three, funded through a Saudi Arabian loan arrangement.
CH&PA's Chief Executive Officer and the agency's director of projects met with contractors on Tuesday to discuss the works, which include developments linked to the Parika highway corridor.
The CEO stressed the importance of completing the works within the required timelines, noting that Region Three remains a critical hub for the government's housing programme because of land availability and rising demand for house lots.
The $9.1 billion investment covers infrastructural development, land preparation and the installation of utilities across the region.
More than 3,800 new residential lots are expected to be developed under the project, which CH&PA says will help address the nearly 10,000 pending housing applications in Region Three.
Although the project has a contractual completion period of ten months, CH&PA is aiming to finish the works within six to seven months so the lots can be made available for housing construction as quickly as possible.
CH&PA's director of projects said the initiative forms part of a wider development plan for Region Three aimed at improving connectivity and opening up additional lands for housing.
