NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 22, 2026
Rehabilitation works at McKenzie High School have been completed, just two weeks after Minister of Education Sonia Parag visited the institution.
The works were carried out at the Lynden Concert Hall building at the school, which accommodates approximately 300 grade seven and grade eight students.
During her visit on September 3rd, Minister Parag inspected the facilities and engaged contractors on the needs identified at the time.
She instructed that the rehabilitation be completed within a strict two-week deadline.
Completed works included replacement of the roof and ceiling, electrical upgrades, repainting of the walls, and installation of fans to improve ventilation.
According to the Ministry of Education, the project forms part of its continued effort to improve the physical learning environment, ensuring schools are safe, functional and conducive to learning.
The ministry says completion within the stipulated time frame reflects its focus on responding to identified needs and delivering tangible improvements to education infrastructure.
