Members of the Port Kaituma Community Policing Group are working alongside police ranks to help maintain safety in the area.
The group assists officers with locating individuals, serving court summonses, and supporting other policing duties in the community.
In an area where officers often have to cover wide stretches of land, local knowledge from group members makes a practical difference to how effectively duties are carried out.
Members are familiar with the community's layout and its people, which allows them to help ranks work more efficiently.
Their involvement is also seen as a way of strengthening the connection between residents and law enforcement, with community members taking an active role in promoting safety where they live.
The group includes volunteers who have served for many years, some with more than a decade of experience, alongside newer members who are continuing that tradition of service.
The initiative reflects a partnership built on the idea that community safety works better when residents themselves are part of the effort.
