President Ali and Minister Mustapha pay final respects to veteran PPP stalwart

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 21, 2026

President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha joined mourners on Wednesday morning to pay their final respects to a long-standing member of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), who was described as a dedicated patriot.

The late comrade was remembered for his unwavering commitment to the party and for his contributions to Guyana's democratic struggle. Those paying tribute hailed him as a man who gave his life to the cause he believed in.

He stood alongside the late Dr. Cheddi Jagan in the fight to restore democracy in Guyana. That struggle shaped much of his adult life and earned him a place of respect within the party's ranks.

His activism came at a heavy price. He endured imprisonment and prosecution for his political work, but he remained steadfast in his service and did not abandon his principles.

He later served as a member of parliament, bringing his years of experience in the struggle into the National Assembly.

The presence of the President and the Agriculture Minister at the farewell reflected the high regard in which the late comrade was held within the PPP and among those who worked with him over the years.

Heartfelt condolences were extended to his family, friends and comrades, who are mourning the loss of a man remembered for his courage, loyalty and service to the party and the country.
