METEN-MEER-ZORG, REGION THREE — The Meten-Meer-Zorg cricket ground has received a new heavy-duty roller, officially handed over during a visit to the community on Monday, August 10, 2026, by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Charles Ramson Jr., M.P.
The Minister was accompanied by Surendra Singh, an assistant director of sport, and Franklin Wilson.
The equipment is expected to play an important role in improving the condition of the playing surface, allowing for better maintenance of the cricket facility and creating improved conditions for the players and residents who use the ground.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the ministry’s team to engage directly with members of the community. Following the handover, grassroots consultations were held with residents and sports enthusiasts, focusing on community development, sporting needs, and possible initiatives that could further benefit athletes and young people in the area.
The engagement highlights the importance of community-level sporting facilities in providing opportunities for young people to participate in sport and develop their skills.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport continues to place emphasis on improving sporting infrastructure and strengthening support for grassroots sport, with communities such as Meten-Meer-Zorg an important part of that development. The handover of the heavy-duty roller is expected to contribute to the continued improvement of the cricket ground, while ongoing consultations could help shape future sporting initiatives within the community.
