NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 10, 2026
The Ministry of Education has met head teachers from across Region Four to focus on stronger school management and leadership as the new academic year gets underway.
The gathering brought together heads of nursery, primary and secondary schools, practical instruction centres and special education institutes from the east coast and east bank of Demerara.
The meeting is part of the ministry's monthly engagement with school leaders.
Minister of Education Sonia Parag addressed the head teachers. She reminded them of the important role they play in managing their schools effectively.
The minister encouraged school leaders to lead with purpose and accountability. She also stressed the need to keep a clear focus on supporting teachers in improving student outcomes.
The session was also used to reinforce key policies, management practices and expectations for school leaders. This was aimed in particular at those who have recently been promoted to leadership positions.
The ministry says these engagements are meant to equip head teachers with the tools they need to strengthen school management. The goal is to create environments where students can learn, develop and succeed.
The monthly meetings give the ministry a regular opportunity to speak directly with those who run schools day to day, as classes resume for the new year.
