GEORGETOWN, Guyana. The Ministry of Education has gathered head teachers from nursery, primary and secondary schools, practical instruction centres and special education institutions along the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara for the first of its monthly leadership meetings of the new academic year.
The session focused on school management and leadership as classes resume across Region Four. Education Minister Sonia Parag addressed the heads and reminded them of the weight of their role in running a school well. She asked them to lead with purpose and accountability, and to keep their attention on supporting teachers so that student results improve.
The meeting was also used to restate key policies, management practices and the ministry’s expectations of school leaders, with particular attention to those newly promoted into leadership posts.
The ministry says these regular engagements are meant to give head teachers the tools to manage their schools more effectively and to build environments in which students can learn, develop and succeed.
