NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice. Fisherfolk at Sheet Anchor in Region Six are to get a shed, fencing and a proper landing site after Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha visited the area and heard their concerns first-hand.
The minister met the fishers beneath the Canje Bridge to assess the condition of the landing area, where remedial works are already being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works.
Minister Mustapha said the Agriculture Ministry will complement that work with additional infrastructure: a shed, fencing of the area, and the development of a proper landing site. The improvements are intended to let fishers moor their boats safely while going about their daily work, and to give the Sheet Anchor fishing community a more organised and stable base.
The minister said the investment will support the livelihoods of local fisherfolk while strengthening the fisheries sector in Region Six as a whole.
Once complete, the works are expected to give the community a safer and more structured facility for its operations.
