North Ruimveld Secondary gets fifth AutoCAD lab under $85M ministry initiative

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 29, 2026

North Ruimveld Secondary School has become the latest institution to benefit from the Education Ministry's $85 million AutoCAD laboratory initiative, with the state-of-the-art facility commissioned yesterday.

The laboratory is the fifth of its kind established under the programme, which is aimed at modernising industrial technology education across the country.

The new lab is designed to move students beyond traditional technical drawing, giving them hands-on experience in computer-aided design to create 2D and 3D digital models. These are skills considered critical for careers in architecture, engineering and construction.

Six secondary schools nationwide are slated to benefit from the project as part of the ministry's broader push to modernise technical and vocational education.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Education Minister Sonia Parag said the investment is about future-proofing Guyanese students.

Minister Parag said education must continue to evolve with the times, noting that the ministry wants students to leave school equipped with the practical and digital skills they need to compete and succeed in a changing world.
