Health Ministry marks World Environmental Health Day 2026

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 30, 2026

The Ministry of Health, through its climate change and environmental health department, in collaboration with the Central Board of Health, on Monday hosted its observance of World Environmental Health Day 2026 at the Pegasus Atlantic Suite.

The event was held under the theme Environmental Health Standing With Science To Protect Communities.

The observance highlighted the contribution of environmental health officers to safeguarding public health, while also reflecting on the growth and development of the profession in Guyana.

Remarks were delivered by the Director of Primary Health Care, the Secretary of the Central Board of Health, and the Director of Climate Change and Environmental Health.

Speakers reflected on the progress made in strengthening climate change and environmental health work, while the Secretary of the Central Board of Health highlighted the board's role in advancing measures to protect communities.

The programme also featured reflections from environmental health officers from across the regions, who shared their experiences and perspectives on the work being done nationwide.

The observance concluded with a recognition and awards ceremony honouring the regions, the Central Board of Health, and an individual recognised for her contribution to environmental health in Guyana.
