More than one hundred Indians missing at flooded Nepal–China crossing

KATHMANDU — At one of the Himalayas’ most vital trade arteries — the border crossing between Nepal and China — more than one hundred Indian nationals are unaccounted for after floodwater tore through the corridor.

Accounts from the crossing describe only minutes between the first signs of trouble and the water’s arrival. The crossing carries goods, pilgrims and workers between three of Asia’s most populous nations, which is why a single flood there scatters grief across borders: the missing are Indian, the ground is Nepali, the far bank is Chinese.
