Labour, housing officials join Lions Club walk for breast cancer awareness

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 12, 2026

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, Indra Ramarine, and a Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water joined a Lions Club based in Diamond for the Lions Vision Walk and Mini Fair 2026 over the weekend.

The event was held in support of breast cancer awareness month, community wellness and the promotion of eye health.

Organisers said the activity highlighted the importance of raising awareness about preventable blindness, encouraged regular eye examinations and promoted healthier lifestyles among participants.

The walk and fair also aimed to strengthen community engagement and underline the importance of accessible health and wellness initiatives across the population.

The Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning said it remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote the wellbeing of citizens and contribute to healthier, more inclusive communities across Guyana.

Officials from both ministries used the occasion to encourage residents to take preventative health measures seriously, noting that early detection remains one of the most effective tools in addressing breast cancer and preserving eye health.

The Lions Vision Walk and Mini Fair forms part of ongoing efforts by civic and service organisations to partner with government agencies on public health outreach during the month of October, which is observed internationally as breast cancer awareness month.
