Minister Ramson Assesses New Amsterdam Synthetic Track as Sporting Development Continues in Region Six

NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE — Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. visited the New Amsterdam Synthetic Track on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, inspecting the state of the facility and reviewing the work still outstanding at a venue intended to become a central sporting site for Region Six.

The Minister was accompanied on the visit by the Regional Executive Officer, as part of continuing efforts to assist the facility and support its development.

During the site visit, officials examined several areas of the complex and reviewed work already under way, including sections that require further development and improvement. The assessment focused on ensuring that the sporting complex can adequately serve athletes, sporting organisations and communities across the region.

The New Amsterdam Synthetic Track is expected to provide athletes with an improved environment for training and competition, while also creating the capacity for sporting events to be hosted in Region Six itself.

Officials said the continued development of the facility is expected to support future participation in sport, particularly among young people, by placing improved sporting infrastructure closer to the communities that would use it.

The visit reflected what officials described as a continued focus on expanding and improving sporting facilities outside Georgetown, where the country’s major athletics venues have historically been concentrated.

Once fully developed, the New Amsterdam Synthetic Track is expected to play an important role in strengthening Region Six’s sporting capacity, giving athletes in the region greater opportunity to train, compete and develop their skills without travelling to the capital.

No date was given during the visit for the completion of the outstanding works.
