Residents in Region One are set to benefit from improved health care services following major upgrades at the Port Kaituma Hospital.
The new facilities were officially opened on 2 May 2026 by Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony.
The upgrades include a modern operating theatre, a digital X-ray unit, a building for mothers and children, a maternity waiting home and a centre to help control diseases.
These additions are expected to improve patient care, particularly for surgeries, diagnostic testing and maternal services.
The Minister said the improvements are an important step in fixing long-standing gaps in the region’s health care system, and highlighted the goal of reducing maternal deaths while improving care for all citizens.
The government says the works form part of its wider plan to make health care more accessible across the country.
