NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 15, 2026
Seniors from various elderly hubs across Guyana gathered on Wednesday at a park in Region Three for a special appreciation event marking International Month of Elder Persons.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud attended the celebration and reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring elderly persons are treated with dignity and respect.
The minister also reminded seniors of their right to safe housing and access to their pension.
Beyond the celebration, seniors benefited from free health checkups offered at the event.
Representatives from Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) and Bill Express were on hand to guide pensioners through the process of signing up to receive their pensions more conveniently.
The event was organised by the ministry's recreation department in collaboration with the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Policy Unit (SODVPU).
The gathering provided a joyful space for seniors to unwind, dance to classic tunes, sing folk songs and reconnect with friends.
