NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 30, 2026
A family on the East Coast of Demerara is appealing to the public for assistance after their mother, who has lived with diabetes for 13 years, saw her condition worsen in recent times.
Her son, identified as Kevon, reached out to Little Rock Television Station to say his mother has suffered from a foot wound for several years as a result of her diabetic condition. He said the wound has recently gotten out of control, leaving her in a difficult state.
Kevon explained that his mother suffered a fall recently, which further aggravated her condition and made it harder for her to move around.
Because of the severity of the wound, she now has to travel to Georgetown twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, to have it cleaned and dressed at the hospital.
Kevon said the constant travelling has placed a heavy burden on the family. As the one who accompanies his mother to her appointments, he is now unable to work regularly, leaving the family without a steady income.
With mounting costs for transportation, medication and daily living, the family said they are struggling to make ends meet.
They are appealing to members of the public, the business community and anyone willing to help in any way, whether through financial assistance, groceries or other essential items. Kevon said any form of assistance would be greatly appreciated as the family tries to get through this difficult period.
Those willing to help are asked to contact the family directly.
