NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 29, 2026
A state-of-the-art AutoCAD laboratory was commissioned yesterday at Hope Secondary School, part of a wider push to bring digital design training into the classroom.
The laboratory will allow students to move from traditional manual technical drawing to creating detailed 2D and 3D digital drawings using AutoCAD design software.
The facility forms part of an $85 million investment by the Ministry of Education to equip six secondary schools with specialised industrial technology laboratories, aimed at giving students hands-on skills for high-demand careers in architecture, engineering and construction.
Remarks were delivered on behalf of Minister of Education Priya Manickchand by the Deputy Chief Education Officer for TVET, who linked the investment directly to Guyana's development path.
The official said the facility reflects the Ministry of Education's commitment to equipping students with modern digital skills that prepare them for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
He added that as Guyana continues to expand in infrastructure, housing, energy and manufacturing, the demand for digitally skilled and technically competent professionals will keep growing.
Hope Secondary was commissioned alongside a second secondary school yesterday under the same project.
The initiative continues today with a commissioning at New Amsterdam Multilateral School, with another secondary school in the region set to receive its laboratory on Wednesday.
