Eighteen persons with disabilities trained in plumbing at Mahaica learning lab

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 14, 2026

Eighteen persons living with disabilities recently completed plumbing training at the Mahaica learning lab in Region Six, East Berbice-Corentyne.

The training was organised under the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security's Support Services for Persons with Disabilities Unit (SSPDU).

Officials said the programme gives participants more than a new skill. It offers a chance to earn an income, become more independent and build a better future for themselves and their families.

The initiative is being championed by Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud, who continues to advocate for training, support and encouragement that allow persons living with disabilities to reach their full potential.

The ministry said the plumbing course forms part of ongoing efforts to equip persons with disabilities with marketable trade skills.

Authorities issued a reminder that everyone deserves the chance to learn, grow and earn a living, and that no one should be left behind.
