East Coast family appeals for help as mother’s diabetic wound worsens

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 30, 2026

A family on the East Coast of Demerara is appealing to the public for assistance after their mother, who has lived with diabetes for the past 13 years, saw her condition worsen in recent times.

Her son, identified as Kevon, contacted Little Rock Television station to explain that his mother has suffered from a wound to her foot for several years as a result of her diabetic condition. He said that within recent times the wound has gotten out of control, leaving her in a difficult state.

Kevon explained that his mother recently fell, an incident that further aggravated her condition and made it harder for her to move around.

Because of the severity of the wound, she now has to travel to Georgetown twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, to have the wound cleaned and dressed at the hospital.

Kevon said the constant travelling has placed a heavy burden on the family. As the one who accompanies his mother to her appointments, he is now unable to go to work on a regular basis, leaving the family without a steady income.

With mounting expenses for transportation, medication and daily living, the family says it is struggling to make ends meet.

The family is appealing to members of the public, the business community, and anyone willing to help in whatever way possible, whether through financial assistance, groceries, or other essential items. Kevon said any amount of assistance would be greatly appreciated as they try to navigate this challenging period.

Those willing to help are asked to make contact with the family directly.
