Government Employees Strengthen Workplace Safety Practices through OSH Training

GEORGETOWN — Employees representing 12 government ministries and agencies have strengthened their knowledge of occupational safety and health following a two-day workshop held on Monday and Tuesday.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Ministry of Labour and the Training and Development Department of the Ministry of Public Service.

The training focused on identifying workplace hazards, preventing accidents and promoting effective safety practices across the public sector. Participants included representatives from the Guyana Prison Service and the Bureau of Statistics, among other agencies.

Over the two days, participants were given practical guidance to help them recognise potential hazards in their workplaces and take steps to reduce risks. Sessions also emphasised creating an environment where health and safety are treated as a shared responsibility.

Participants are now expected to serve as advocates for occupational safety and health within their organisations, assisting with hazard identification and encouraging safer work practices among colleagues.
