REGION SIX — Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr Vindhya Persaud made her first stop in Region Six at Miss Phoebe, Mahaicony, on Sunday, meeting families and young people for an open community session.
The engagement brought residents together for a discussion centred on family relationships, responsible decision-making and the importance of maintaining strong family values.
Leading the conversation was Cardinal Hunt, head of the Family Enhancement Services section, who spoke with young people about growing concerns surrounding vaping and its potential harmful effects. The discussion encouraged youths to make informed choices and take greater responsibility for their health and overall well-being.
Dr Persaud also used the opportunity to highlight opportunities within the national care economy, while providing residents with information about the Guyana Development Bank and avenues available to support economic development and entrepreneurship.
Residents were given the chance to speak directly with the minister, raise questions and share concerns affecting their families and communities.
The ministry says these community engagements are designed to strengthen communication between government and residents, and to ensure families and young people know what programmes and services are available to them.
