Parents with babies and toddlers who are accessing training at the Guyana Women's Leadership Institute (GWLI) now have a new support service to help them pursue their goals.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security Vindhya Persaud officially commissioned the institute's new early childhood space at Cove and John, on the East Coast of Demerara, on Friday.
The facility will provide free daycare for staff of the GWLI, as well as for parents taking part in the Women's Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) training programme.
The initiative is aimed at creating a safe and supportive environment where parents can focus on learning, working and developing their entrepreneurial skills, knowing that their young children are nearby and being cared for.
The new daycare space is expected to remove one of the challenges that can keep parents, particularly women, from taking full part in training and economic opportunities.
Through the initiative, women will have greater support as they work to improve their skills, develop their businesses and become more economically empowered.
The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security says providing child care support is an important part of empowering women. It gives them the opportunity to pursue their goals while ensuring their children are properly cared for.
