COVE AND JOHN, East Coast Demerara — Parents with babies and toddlers who are training at the Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute now have a support service designed to make it easier to pursue their goals: a new early childhood space at the institute, commissioned on Friday by the Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud.
The facility provides free daycare for the institute’s staff and for parents taking part in the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) training programme. The aim is a safe, supportive environment in which parents can focus on learning, working and developing their entrepreneurial skills, knowing their young children are close by and cared for.
Child care is one of the barriers that most often keeps parents — particularly women — from taking part fully in training and economic opportunity. The new space is intended to remove it, giving women greater support as they build skills, develop businesses and become more economically independent.
The ministry says child care support is an essential part of empowering women, allowing them to pursue their goals while their children are properly cared for.
