BERLIN — The German government has publicly laid responsibility on Russia for a drone carrying an explosive device that was discovered at Leipzig airport on 4 August — found close to cargo aircraft serving Ukraine.
Leipzig is one of Europe’s busiest freight hubs, and the placement near Ukrainian cargo planes is what gives the accusation its edge: this was not a stray hobby drone but, in Berlin’s telling, a deliberate reach into the supply line. The naming of a state, out loud, marks another notch in the widening contest between Moscow and Europe beyond the battlefield itself.
