After fourteen years, Jamaica’s works agency Chief takes his leave

KINGSTON — One of the longest tenures in Jamaica’s public infrastructure has closed. E.G. Hunter, chief executive of the National Works Agency for the past fourteen years, spent his final day in office bidding farewell to staff after choosing not to seek a new contract.

Hunter had signalled the decision months earlier in a letter to the Public Services Commission dated 7 May, advising that he would serve out the term of his current contract and step aside when it expired this month. The agency he leaves oversees the island’s road and drainage works — the unglamorous machinery on which every commute depends.
