NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 21, 2026
Education in Region One, Barima-Waini, is being transformed with the construction of the modern Hosororo Secondary School.
The school is now considered one of the most modern educational facilities in Guyana. It is equipped with smart classrooms and fully furnished laboratories for information technology, biology, chemistry and home economics, along with facilities for technical and vocational training.
The campus also features modern dormitories for students and comfortable living quarters for teachers.
The school was recently visited by Minister within the Ministry of Education Sonia Parag, a Permanent Secretary in the ministry, the Chief Education Officer, and the Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for secondary schools, Sherwin Blackman.
Officials say that within a few years, the school will have transformed hundreds of families across the Mabaruma sub-district.
Beyond core academic subjects, every student who passes through the institution will graduate with at least one technical skill suited to the needs of their community.
