Education ministry expands tech labs as home affairs Minister tours Police units

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 29, 2026

The Ministry of Education's drive to modernise technical education continued on Tuesday on the East Coast Demerara, with a secondary school becoming the fifth institution to receive a specialised AutoCAD laboratory under the ministry's 85 million dollar initiative.

The programme forms part of a wider push by the ministry to equip schools with modern technical and vocational training tools.

Separately, the Ministry of Human Services confirmed that all children are safe following a fire at the Plum Park children's home on Monday night.

The ministry did not release further details on the cause of the fire or the extent of any damage to the facility.

In another development, the Minister of Home Affairs carried out unannounced visits to three units of the Guyana Police Force as part of an effort to assess operations and public service delivery.

The visits are intended to give the ministry a firsthand look at how police stations are functioning and how effectively they are serving the public.

No further details were given on which specific units were visited or what findings emerged from the assessments.
