NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 16, 2026
Guyana's tourism accommodation capacity is expected to approach 6,000 rooms by the end of 2026, the Director of the Tourism Authority disclosed while addressing the State of the Industry Conference, SOTIC 2026.
The projection reflects increased investment in the hospitality sector, including the arrival of international hotel brands such as AC by Marriott and Four Points by Sheraton, alongside the development of additional accommodation properties.
The Tourism Authority also revealed that another 15 hotels are expected to become operational after this year, as growth in the industry continues.
The increased accommodation capacity is expected to support Guyana's growing meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions market. More than 20 conferences and exhibitions were hosted in the country during 2026, attracting visitors and creating business opportunities for restaurants, bars and other tourism related services.
The growth is also expected to benefit leisure travel and tourism generally, allowing more visitors to experience the country's natural attractions and cultural heritage.
However, officials stressed that expanding hotel capacity must go hand in hand with improved customer service and a skilled workforce. In that regard, the Hospitality and Tourism Institute is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, to help prepare more trained professionals for the expanding industry.
The Guyana Tourism Authority also highlighted the development of approximately eight new tours and experiences over the past six years, done in collaboration with the private sector.
As investment continues, authorities say the aim is to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve the visitor experience and create opportunities for local businesses and workers across the sector.
