NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 15, 2026
Finishing works are now underway at the Diamond Grove multi-purpose centre in Region Six. The Minister within the Ministry of Housing led a site visit yesterday to check on the progress of the building.
The minister was joined by the Deputy Director of Community Development, the project engineer identified as Kelvin Guran, other technical officers, and contractor Jai Takaran of Superior Builders and Engineering Inc.
Focus has now shifted to the final stages of construction, including plastering, installation of wall fixtures and completion of interior ceiling work.
According to the project team, the building spans roughly 70 by 100 feet and is designed as an open concept facility with integrated washrooms to accommodate a range of community activities.
The centre sits within the same compound as the Diamond Grove Recreational Park, which was commissioned by First Lady Arya Ali and already serves more than 40,000 residents.
Together, the two facilities are expected to boost community well being and provide a hub for skills training, engagement and recreation for children, families and the elderly.
A management committee will be put in place to run the centre once construction is completed, and parking facilities are also included in the design.
The government says the project forms part of its wider push to create inclusive, accessible community spaces across the country.
