NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 15, 2026
Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapa yesterday delivered a major boost to farmers in the Moruca sub-district, Region One, with the handover of a range of agricultural inputs and equipment.
Farmers received tools including cutlasses, files, garden hoses and spades, along with mist blowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, backpack pumps, spray cans, fertilizers and agrochemicals. Shade house materials, plastic shade mesh and two all-terrain vehicles were also handed over.
Addressing farmers at the event, Minister Mustapa stressed the need to increase and expand agricultural production in the area. He called for greater involvement of women and young people in farming.
He said increased participation in agriculture helps residents generate income and drives economic growth in their communities.
The minister reaffirmed government's commitment to provide farmers with the tools, technical support and resources needed to improve productivity and benefit from new opportunities in the agricultural sector.
The Minister of Amerindian Affairs and regional officials were also in attendance at the handover.
