NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 16, 2026
Minister within the Ministry of Education Sonia Parag, along with senior government officials, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the University of Guyana's Turkeyen campus on Wednesday.
The team visited classrooms, lecture theatres, washrooms, the library and other key areas of the campus to assess the current condition of the facilities and identify areas requiring attention.
The exercise follows an initiative by President Dr. Irfaan Ali aimed at improving the physical infrastructure and learning environment at the University of Guyana.
Officials say the assessment is intended to identify the infrastructural works needed to ensure the campus is ready to effectively accommodate face-to-face classes.
The improvements are also expected to support a safer, more functional and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The Ministry of Education was represented by its Permanent Secretary, the Chief Education Officer, and the Advisor on Tertiary Education Reform, who also serves as dean of the University of Guyana's Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
The inspection forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the university's facilities and improve the overall experience for students and staff.
