Education Ministry launches upgraded EDPAL+ app and media mentorship programme

NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — October 14, 2026

The Ministry of Education's Distance Education Unit on Monday, October 12, 2026, launched the upgraded EDPAL+ application along with a new media mentorship programme.

The revamped platform offers free, advert-free access to lessons, courses, audio books and stories. It includes an offline download feature and is optimised to work on weak network connections, aimed at supporting students in coastal, rural and hinterland communities.

New features on the app include a redesigned home screen, a simplified search function, a continue-learning shortcut, an integrated edu-feed, and a personalised for-you section that recommends content based on a student's listening habits.

Chief Planning Officer at the Distance Education Unit, Meshka White-Griffith, said digital tools are central to modernising access to education. She noted that parents can trust the platform because it is safe and directly linked to what children learn in school.

Alongside the app, the Distance Education Unit relaunched its media mentorship programme, which is providing hands-on training from unit professionals in photography, videography, pre-production, video editing, audio production and content development.

The workshop sessions are running from Tuesday, October 13 to Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Distance Education Unit's office and studio on Battery Road, Kingston, Georgetown.

Director of the Distance Education Unit, Philip Williams, said the unit operates on the philosophy that a person's physical address should not determine access to educational resources.

Williams said EDPAL+ is a cornerstone of the ministry's digital transformation drive, making learning more accessible and responsive to students across Guyana.
