Minister Vickram Bharrat Meets Barama River Communities During Region One Cabinet Outreach

BARAMA RIVER, REGION ONE — Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, engaged with residents of the Barama River communities of Chinese Landing, Kariako and Kokerite as the Government continued its cabinet outreach across Region One.

The meetings form part of the region-wide initiative led by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who, along with members of his Cabinet, is visiting communities in the Moruca, Matarkai and Mabaruma sub-districts.

The outreach is intended to bring government directly to the people — particularly those in remote and hinterland communities — ensuring they have an opportunity to speak directly with ministers and senior government officials.

During the engagements, residents were invited to raise issues affecting their villages and discuss matters relating to infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, employment, public services and economic opportunities. Community members also had the opportunity to make recommendations on areas they believe require additional government attention to improve the quality of life in their villages.

The cabinet outreach programme has become a key feature of the Government’s engagement strategy, providing a direct line of communication between citizens and decision-makers. Rather than requiring residents to travel long distances to access government services or voice concerns, ministers visit communities to hear firsthand about the challenges people face and to work towards practical solutions.

Officials say the initiative also provides an opportunity to update residents on ongoing and planned development projects, while ensuring that government policies and programmes reflect the needs and priorities identified by the communities themselves.

The outreach further encourages stronger collaboration between central government, regional authorities, village councils and residents — a partnership officials believe is essential to delivering sustainable development and ensuring communities continue to benefit from Guyana’s economic growth.

Since its introduction by President Ali, the cabinet outreach programme has taken ministers to communities in every region of the country, aiming to strengthen public trust, improve service delivery, and ensure that no community is left behind regardless of its geographic location.
