NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 28, 2026
Prime Minister Brigadier (ret'd) Mark Phillips, performing the functions of President, met on Thursday with JCI Guyana President Gavin Thomas and National Executive Vice President Lauren Jonas.
The meeting focused on youth empowerment and possible collaboration between the government and the organisation.
During the discussion, the JCI representatives briefed the Prime Minister on the organisation's youth leadership programs and upcoming initiatives aimed at promoting youth development.
The talks also touched on developments within the wider regional JCI network.
Prime Minister Phillips reaffirmed the government's commitment to empowering young people and said there was room for greater collaboration with JCI Guyana.
He noted that this could include engagement with the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, along with other government agencies and institutions.
JCI is a global nonprofit organisation present in more than 120 countries, bringing together young people between the ages of 18 and 40 to build leadership skills and contribute to their communities.
