Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud was a featured panelist on Thursday morning at the annual Caribbean Sociological Association conference, held at the University of Guyana.
During the session, Minister Persaud spoke on how the expansion of social services has created greater opportunities for vulnerable groups across the country.
She pointed to initiatives such as free skills training offered through the Women's Innovation and Investment Network, known as WIN, along with programmes supporting persons living with disabilities and free, confidential counselling services.
The minister also acknowledged that gaps remain within the social services system, while outlining ongoing efforts to make services more accessible and responsive to the needs of citizens.
Also taking part in the discussions were Assistant Chief Probation and Social Service Officer Samantha Craig, Chief Executive Officer of Early Childhood Development Kittita Gray, and Assistant Chief Probation and Social Services Officer Trinetta Elliot.
The panel formed part of the broader Caribbean Sociological Association conference proceedings held at the university.
