GEORGETOWN, Guyana. The Ministry of Education has begun delivering two Caribbean Vocational Qualification programmes outside the capital, at the Beterverwagting Practical Instruction Centre and the Fellowship Practical Instruction Centre, bringing certified skills training closer to the communities that use it.
The move follows a memorandum of understanding between the Carnegie School of Home Economics and the two centres. Under the agreement, students now have access to CVQ Level One in Commercial Food Preparation and CVQ Level One in Garment Making without travelling into Georgetown.
Classes began on Monday at both centres, marking the start of the programmes in practice.
The ministry says the decentralised model is part of a wider push to widen access to quality technical and vocational education and training across Guyana. It expects the arrangement to put recognised skills training within reach of more learners, and with it better prospects for certification, employment and self-employment.
The ministry says the initiative supports its aim of making TVET accessible, relevant and equitable, so that more Guyanese, wherever they live, can gain skills for their personal and professional development.
