GEORGETOWN, Guyana. Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr Vindhya Persaud spent Monday afternoon in Leopold Street, moving through the community on foot, hearing residents’ concerns directly and setting out how they would be addressed.
The minister heard what residents want for the area and discussed programmes designed to open up more opportunities for them. She also checked in with seniors, families and children to make sure they are receiving the support they are entitled to.
The visit produced immediate results for some. A number of residents signed up on the spot for free courses under the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network, while others were able to check the status of their old age pension and public assistance applications.
The ministry says Dr Persaud will return to Leopold Street as plans move ahead to bring programmes directly into the community, including training sessions and youth initiatives.
