NEW AMSTERDAM, Berbice — September 2, 2026
A joint police operation in the Canje Creek has uncovered three cannabis farms covering about 10 and a half acres, with an estimated 53,500 plants. The narcotics destroyed were valued at $22,834,696.
The plants ranged in height from four inches to six feet. No arrests were made.
The first farm, about six acres, held an estimated 30,000 plants. Ranks also found a camp, a drying area and about 20 pounds of dried cannabis at that location.
The second farm measured about four acres and contained roughly 20,000 plants. Police found two makeshift camps there, along with a nursery holding about 9,600 cannabis seedlings.
The third farm, about half an acre, had an estimated 3,500 plants.
During further searches of the area, police also found a single-barrel shotgun and four shotgun cartridges. A multicoloured sack nearby contained three suspected rounds of ammunition: two suspected 9 mm rounds and one suspected .32 round.
All the plants were uprooted and destroyed, along with the makeshift camps, the drying area and the dried cannabis.
Of the total value, the cannabis plants accounted for $13,043,800, the nursery plants for $1,626,240 and the dried cannabis for $8,164,656. All figures are in Guyana dollars.
Police investigations are continuing.
