PORT KAITUMA, Region One. Residents of Five Star Village have received a new tractor to support mining and farming in the community, handed over on Saturday 5 September by Minister of Housing and Water and Parliamentary Representative for Region One Collin Croal during his visit to the region.
The tractor was presented on behalf of the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, as part of continuing support for communities across the country.
Community Development Council Chairperson Samuel Eastman received it on the village’s behalf. “It will be used to transport miners and their goods as well as agricultural produce and supplies,” he said.
Mr Eastman said Five Star Village is actively involved in farming and that the tractor will be an important asset for both mining and agriculture. He thanked the government for its continued support, saying the assistance is benefiting residents and contributing to the village’s development.
The handover forms part of the government’s continued investment in hinterland and riverine communities to strengthen livelihoods and economic activity.
